Measuring checklist

  1. Measure the finished openingTile, stone or panel to the same on the opposite side. Do not measure bare studs or backer board — the finished surface is what the glass meets.
  2. Take the width at three heightsTop, middle and bottom: near the top, at about mid-height, and near the floor or curb. Openings are rarely identical at all three.
  3. Keep the smallest widthWrite down all three figures and keep the smallest. A door ordered to the widest figure will not pass the narrowest point.
  4. Measure the height on both sidesFrom the finished floor, curb or sill to where the top of the glass will sit.
  5. Check walls and sillCheck the walls for plumb and the curb or sill for level with a spirit level, and note how far out they are.
  6. Note anything in the wayA sloped ceiling, a window reveal, a shower valve, a bench, or a curb that is not flat on top.
  7. Confirm the product requirementsEach door lists its own fitting range and requirements — see what the sample catalog covers.
